Twenty-five papers focus on subjects pertinent to victimology, including theoretical issues, domestic violence, legislative reforms, compensation and restitution, programs and services, and research and policy.
Abstract
Among the papers are those that analyze the recent trend in victimology concerning its metamorphosis from a 'victimology of act' to a 'victimology of action,' focus on the concept of victim and new perspectives offered by victimological research, and discuss victimological aspects of involuntary crimes. Also analyzed are the psychological perspectives of battered women, the dynamics of child abuse and neglect, and rape reform legislation in the United States. The use of legal remedies in response to domestic violence in England and Wales is examined, as well as a victim compensation program in Quebec, victim-witness services, and a treatment protocol at a rape crisis center at a hospital emergency service. Research and policy issues considered include rape victimology in Egypt, research uses of victimization surveys, recent legislation and research on victims in Sweden, the victimology of alcoholism, and fear of crime as a policy problem. Tables, chapter notes, and references are provided. For individual papers, see NCJ-92696 to NCJ-92715.
