A SUPPLEMENT TO THE MODEL STATE ACT (NCJ-04905) PROVIDING REGULATIONS THAT CAN BE USED BY THE CRIMINAL OFFENDER RECORDS CONTROL COMMITTEE AS ESTABLISHED IN THE MODEL ACT.
Abstract
THE COMMITTEE SETS PRIVACY AND SECURITY STANDARDS, PROMULGATES REGULATIONS, AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTROLLING THE OPERATION OF THE RECORDKEEPING SYSTEM. THESE REGULATIONS CALL FOR THE USE OF COMPUTERS DEDICATED SOLELY TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE USERS. REGULATIONS ARE SUGGESTED FOR THE USE OF RECORDS FOR RESEARCH PROJECTS AND FOR THE PURGING OF CRIMINAL OFFENDER RECORD INFORMATION. THE PROCEDURES INVOLVED IN THE INDIVIDUAL'S REVIEW OF HIS CRIMINAL RECORD FILES AND HIS SUBSEQUENT, OPTIONAL CHALLENGE OF THE ACCURACY OF THAT INFORMATION ARE DELINEATED. OTHER REGULATIONS ARE CONCERNED WITH THE CATEGORIES OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION, THE CATEGORIES OF ACCESSING AGENCIES AND THE METHODS OF DISSEMINATING THIS INFORMATION. FINALLY, THE SENSITIVITY CLASSIFICATIONS OF INFORMATION AND PERSONAL CLEARANCE LEVELS ARE PRESENTED.
