THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S ROLE IN PROVIDING NATIONAL LEADERSHIP, COORDINATION AND PLANNING, ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS, AND FINANCIAL AID TO COMBAT ORGANIZED CRIME.
Abstract
EFFORTS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND IN ASSISTANCE TO STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AGAINST SYNDICATED CRIME ARE SUMMARIZED. THE ORGANIZATIONAL FRAMEWORK AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON ORGANIZED CRIME ARE OUTLINED. SINCE THE ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES OF SYNDICATE CRIMINALS OFTEN OCCUR ACROSS STATE LINES OR INVOLVE OTHER NATIONS IN ENFORCEMENT, SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS GIVEN TO THE FEDERAL JURISDICTION OVER INTERSTATE AND INTERNATIONAL MATTERS.
