Abstract
DISCUSSION ON WHO NEEDS A GUARD IS FOLLOWED BY SUGGESTIONS ON SELECTING GUARDS, DECIDING HOW MANY GUARDS ARE NEEDED FOR A PLANT OR BUILDING COMPLEX, AND WHAT EQUIPMENT A SECURITY GUARD SHOULD POSSESS. POINTERS AS TO HOW A GUARD'S ROUTE SHOULD BE LAID OUT STATE THAT ALL STATIONS ALONG IT SHOULD BE CHECKED OUT IN PROPER ORDER AND EVERY GUARD SHOULD BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA HE IS TO PROTECT. HINTS ARE GIVEN FOR THE VAROUS PATROLS THE GUARD WILL MAKE. THE ROLE OF THE GATE GUARD IS DISCUSSED AS WELL AS THE IMPORTANCE OF A WATCH CLOCK SYSTEM FOR KEEPING GUARDS ALERT. THE THREE PRIMARY SYSTEMS FOR RECORDING A GUARD'S ACTIVITIES ARE DELINEATED ALONG WITH THEIR ADVANTAGES-- THE PORTABLE WATCHCLOCK SYSTEM, THE LOCAL OR PRIVATE STATIONARY SYSTEM, AND THE CENTRAL STATION SYSTEM. THE BOOKLET CONCLUDES WITH SECTIONS ON PROTECTION AGAINST FIRE AND USE OF THE PROPER EXTINGUISHER, FIRST AID TECHNIQUES, SPRINKLER AND SMOKE DETECTOR SYSTEMS, AND HOW TO CONTROL DOORS AND EMERGENCY EXITS.
