RESULTS OF A STUDY TO DETERMINE THE POSSIBILITY OF NEW CAREER LINES IN THE CORRECTIONAL FIELD TOWARD WHICH YOUTH MIGHT BE DIRECTED.
Abstract
VARIOUS ASPECTS OF UTILIZING NONPROFESSIONALS, EXOFFENDERS, AND OFFENDERS THEMSELVES IN THE REHABILITATION PROCESS WERE EXPLORED. THE AUTHORS REVIEWED LITERATURE, INTERVIEWED NATIONALLY KNOWN AUTHORITIES, AND MADE FIELD TRIPS TO PLACES WHERE CONSIDERABLE EXPERIMENTATION WAS GOING ON. THIS REPORT SEEKS TO COMBINE AN INVESTIGATION OF NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN CORRECTIONS WITH RECENT FINDINGS REGARDING MANPOWER UTILIZATION. MANPOWER INNOVATIONS ARE DISCUSSED IN TERMS OF THREE MAJOR SETTINGS - INSTITUTIONS, PROBATION AND PAROLE SERVICES, AND NEW FORMS OF COMMUNITY TREATMENT. A CONCLUDING CHAPTER RECOMMENDS GUIDELINES FOR INTRODUCING NONPROFESSIONAL PERSONNEL INTO THESE SETTINGS, TOGETHER WITH MODELS FOR EXPERIMENTATION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
