This third edition of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police Public Safety Manual is a collection of reports and studies relating to the development and administration of consolidated fire-police departments, surveys of Michigan public safety systems, articles relating to Michigan municipal systems, and selected articles dealing with those systems in other States.
Abstract
The manual intends to assist government officials and other researchers in locating information on the police-fire consolidation concept in municipal management and to aid Michigan public safety administrators in accessing a network of professionals with similar concerns. The surveys should help researchers identify municipalities with characteristics comparable to the units for which they are doing the research. A search of the directory provided will supply the addresses and phone number of the heads of the departments in which a researcher may be interested. This edition has removed obsolete data and reports no longer relevant. New material includes the "Operations Analysis of the City of Kalamazoo Public Safety Department," the benefits and barriers to police-fire consolidation as experienced by the Durham, N.C., Public Safety Department, a report on the 30 years of the operation of the Oak Park Department of Public Safety (Michigan), and the "Firefighters Fact List."
