This manual contains materials on the training program for police traffic radar operation to meet Alaska standards for traffic radar use and on criteria for the certification of operators.
Abstract
Course materials consist of commentary on program administration, an instructor's manual, transparencies, pretest quizzes, a radar evidence kit, court cases, general information, and operating manuals. The training has both a theoretical and a practical phase, covered over a 5-day curriculum. Theoretical instruction is given on the Doppler Principle, basic and moving radar operation, Federal and State laws, rules and regulations, and court acceptance of radar. In addition, national case law on radar is cited, followed by detailed technical aspects of radar installation, operation and interpretation. Such matters as remote battery operation, low voltage warning, and light segment testing, among others, are presented by demonstration. Aspects of licensing and various types of interference are also considered. Views of the press and public are mentioned, as are public relations considerations of radar. Detailed instruction is given on preparations for court in radar cases. Extensive tabular and illustrative material is given.
