Abstract
THE CHIEF CHARACTERISTICS OF THESE PROGRAMS - THEIR PURPOSES, ORGANIZATION, FUNCTIONS, STAFFING, TRAINING, AND FUNDING - ARE DESCRIBED. GUIDELINES AND RECOMMENDATIONS (BASED ON SURVEY RESULTS) FOR CITIZENS GROUPS WHO WISH TO COMBAT RAPE AND TO AID RAPE VICTIMS ARE PRESENTED. SOME, DIRECTED TOWARD GOVERNMENT, ARE IN THE NATURE OF MODELS FOR COMPREHENSIVE COORDINATED COMMUNITY AND AGENCY ACTION. OTHERS ARE HIGHLY SPECIFIC AND AIMED, FOR EXAMPLE, AT GROUPS ATTEMPTING TO PERFORM SERVICES FOR RAPE VICTIMS OR TO FINANCE A PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM. EMPHASIS IS ON THE RAPE CRISIS CENTER. THIS HANDBOOK ALSO CONTAINS SEVERAL APPENDIXES, INCLUDING A SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHY AND A DIRECTORY OF RAPE-RELATED CITIZEN ACTION PROJECTS, GUIDELINES FOR FUND RAISING, RAPE VICTIM COUNSELING, AND PROGRAM ASSESSMENT, PLUS FACTUAL MATERIALS ON RAPE LAW REFORM AND THE THEORY OF RAPE VICTIM COUNSELING.
