Sixteen chapters in this anthology on rape and sexual assault address the aftermath of rape and sexual assault, victim populations, care providers, and sexual aggressors.
Abstract
Six chapters on the aftermath of rape and sexual assault discuss neurobiology in rape trauma, the use of an interview schedule in victim assessment, internal and external mediators of women's rape experiences, the long-term effects of sexual abuse, the efficacy of psychological interventions with recent rape victims, and variations in the social support received by rape survivors compared to other survivors of violent crime. The section on victim populations contains three reports on types of victims of sexual assault: college students victimized on campus, prostitutes, and adult males. The section on care providers contains four chapters that focus on agencies and individuals that provide services to sexual assault victims. Topics covered are sexually transmitted diseases, how to cope with interpersonal violence and sexual victimization, confidentiality in the sexual assault victim/counselor relationship, and counseling sexual assault victims on HIV. Three chapters discuss the characteristics of sexual aggressors and the causes of sexual aggression. Discussions focus on habitual offenders. Chapter tables and references and a subject index
