THIS ARTICLE SUMMARIZES THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY CONDUCTED IN OVER 60 COUNTRIES BY THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF YOUTH MAGISTRATES TO DETERMINE CURRENT PRACTICES IN TRAINING AND RECRUITMENT OF YOUTH MAGISTRATES AND JUDGES.
Abstract
THE SURVEY WAS CARRIED OUT IN NORTH AMERICA, LATIN AMERICA, EUROPE, AFRICA, ASIA, AND AUSTRALIA. SURVEY RESULTS ARE PRESENTED IN THREE SECTIONS; EACH SECTION IS SUBDIVIDED BY CONTINENT AND BY COUNTRY. AN OVERVIEW OF THE MINIMUM SELECTION REQUIREMENTS, SELECTION PROCEDURES, TERMS OF OFFICE, AND REMOVAL PROCEDURES FOR JUVENILE COURT JUDGES AND MAGISTRATES IS FIRST PRESENTED. INFORMATION ON THE TYPES OF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO BASIC ACADEMIC TRAINING IS THEN PROVIDED. FINALLY, THE FUTURE TRENDS IN TRAINING AND SELECTION ARE DISCUSSED. THE DATA INDICATE THAT EXISTING SYSTEMS OF RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING NEED IMPROVEMENT IN MOST COUNTRIES, AND THAT SPECIALIZED PROFESSIONAL COURSES SHOULD BE ORGANIZED. --IN FRENCH
