THE SUBJECT OF LOCAL AND STATE ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING IN CORRECTIONS.
Abstract
ALL FIFTY STATES WERE REPRESENTED IN THE INSTITUTES. THE PURPOSE OF THESE INSTITUTES WAS TO BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF STATE PLANNING COUNCILS THE ROLE OF CORRECTIONS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. ITEMS DISCUSSED IN EACH INSTITUTE WERE THE PROVISIONS OF THE OMNIBUS CRIME CONTROL AND SAFE STREETS ACT, PRINCIPLES OF CORRECTIONAL PLANNING, AND RESOURCE AVAILABILITY TO ASSISTING THE ASSESSING AND PLANNING PROCESSES. FROM THE INSTITUTES THERE EMERGED THE REALIZATION THAT IN APPLYING PLANNING METHODS AND TECHNIQUES TO CORRECTIONS, REGIONAL IMPLICATIONS MUST BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.
