After presenting UNAFEI's (United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders) 1986 annual report, this report presents material produced during UNAFEI's 73rd International Training Course on economic crime.
Abstract
The 1986 annual report describes the main activities and events of 1986 and the work program for 1987. UNAFEI's basic task is to organize and conduct international training courses and seminars for government officials engaged in criminal justice administration and related fields. Papers from the training course on economic crime address such issues as the control of commercial fraud in the United Kingdom, the role of regulation in preventing and prosecuting economic crimes, the impact of economic crime on society and its effective prevention, and economic crime and economic criminal law in the Federal Republic of Germany. Other papers discuss alternatives to the criminal justice system in preventing and controlling economic crime, the effects of sanctions on crime rates, the Singapore experience in combatting economic crime, and graft and corruption. Reports from course sessions cover new dimensions in economic crime, economic crime and criminal justice administration, international cooperation in controlling economic crime, and innovative approaches for preventing economic crime. Also included is a report on the international seminar on drug problems in Asia and the Pacific Region.
