STATUS REPORT ON AN ONGOING STATISTICAL STUDY OF FRENCH FORMER JUVENILE DELINQUENTS AFTER THE PASSAGE OF ABOUT 15 YEARS AIMING AT ESTABLISHING INDICATORS OF THE LIKELIHOOD THAT A JUVENILE WILL BECOME A DANGER TO SOCIETY.
Abstract
HISTORIES OF 200 READJUSTED AND 200 NONREADJUSTED FORMER JUVENILE DELINQUENTS WERE COMPILED. THE HISTORIES INCLUDED INFORMATION ON PERSONAL AND FAMILY BACKGROUND, OFFENSES COMMITTED AS JUVENILES, AND MEASURES PRESCRIBED BY COURTS IN CONSEQUENCE OF THOSE OFFENCES. ALSO INCLUDED WAS INFORMATION ON THE CRIMINAL RECORDS, MARITAL STATUS, NUMBER OF CHILDREN, ETC., OF THE SAME PEOPLE AS ADULTS. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT LACK OF DISCIPLINE, AN ATTITUDE OF OPPOSITION AND INCIDENTS INVOLVING RESISTANCE OR ATTEMPTED ESCAPE AT THE TIME OF PLACEMENT IN AN INSTITUTION ARE INDICATORS OF THE LIKELIHOOD THAT A JUVENILE WILL BECOME A DANGER TO SOCIETY. --IN FRENCH
