COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HOSPITALIZATION, IMPRISONMENT, AND PAROLE SUPERVISION IN PREVENTING ADDICT RELAPSES AFTER RELEASE TO THE COMMUNITY.
Abstract
A TWELVE-YEAR FOLLOWUP STUDY OF NEW YORK CITY ADDICTS INDICATED THAT IMPRISONMENT AND SUBSEQUENT PAROLE PRODUCED THE LONGEST ABSTINENCES FROM DRUG USE. THIS STUDY IS COMPARED WITH OTHER STUDIES OF POST-RELEASE ADDICT BEHAVIOR, AND IT IS SUGGESTED THAT WELL-ENFORCED PAROLE SUPERVISION BE PROVIDED TO AS MANY ADDICTS AS IS LEGALLY FEASIBLE.
