Annotation

This paper indicates the patterns, possibilities and problems of international cooperation at crime policy level concerning the role and protection of victims of crime.

Abstract

Such cooperation, which tends to develop in the framework of international intergovernmental organizations, is described with particular reference to the Council of Europe in this field. It includes: comparative research on victims; the drawing up of common principles of policy regarding the victim's role and interests; the drawing up of international conventions for securing common policy in specific questions regarding the protection of the victim's interests (for example, compensation of victims of crime). The paper concludes on the need for a crime policy, taking into consideration both the interests and protection of the victims and the rehabilitation of the offenders. (Author abstract)
