THE ABSENCE OF A WELL-DEVELOPED THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK RESULTED IN LACK OF ORIENTATION AND LOSS OF EFFICIENCY FOR THIS 1964 PROBATION AND PAROLE RESEARCH PROJECT.
Abstract
THE AUTHORS CRITICIZE THE METHODOLOGY AND FINDINGS OF THIS 4 YEAR STUDY OF THE U.S. PROBATION OFFICE FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA FEDERAL COURTS. THE USE OF CONFORMITY, AS MEASURED BY VIOLATION RATE, AS THE FOCAL MEASURE OF THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF SUPERVISION IS CRITICIZED. THE AUTHORS ALSO CITE A STUDY OF THE PROJECT FROM THE CLIENTS' POINT OF VIEW AS AN EXAMPLE OF VALUABLE RESEARCH WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN MORE EXTENSIVE.
