Slides of the aftermaths of local automobile accidents are interspersed with a narrative presentation designed to impress the audience, particularly high school youth, with the horrible deaths and maimings that result from reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Abstract
The script provides the word-for-word narrative presentation that is to be accompanied by the slide set showing especially gruesome accidents that have occurred in Montgomery County, Md. When the program is used outside the county, it is recommended that, if possible, slides of local automobile accidents be obtained so as to provide a more vivid impression for the viewers. The narrative not only recounts in detail the mangling of the bodies of those involved in the portrayed accidents, but also draws the audience into a self-consciousness of having been killed in an auto accident by describing the autopsy that would be perfomred on one's body and the reactions of family and friends to one's death. Particular attention is given to the dangers of driving while intoxicated. The presentation is careful to avoid lecturing the audience about misconduct. It simply focuses on the possible consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Although originally targeted for teenagers, the program has been adapted to adults.
