This report is the second in a series that is assessing the problems of domestic violence and evaluating the status of proposed implementation strategies for ending this epidemic in Florida.
Abstract
The first chapter details the implementation strategies designed to address the impact of family violence on women and children. The implementation strategies include the development of education, screening, and training protocols to enable State, agency, and advocacy workers to provide better services to battered women, children, and families in these populations. The second chapter looks at implementation strategies in place within health care systems to address the needs of battered women. Implementation of task force recommendations emphasizes better training, education, and a coordinated community response to the needs of battered women and their children. The routine screening of all patients by health care providers for domestic violence is essential. The task force is currently working to develop a domestic violence curriculum to train health and mental health professionals statewide. Chapter 3 places the focus of implementation efforts on creating an integrated, coordinated State and community response to family violence, and chapter 4 describes the implementation efforts in place within Florida's law enforcement, judiciary, and court communities. The latter chapter profiles legislation that focuses on the justice system and domestic violence. The concluding chapter focuses on the implementation initiative that promotes information on and awareness of domestic violence. Throughout the report, the emphasis is on a coordinated, integrated community response to domestic violence. Appended executive order pertinent to the work of the task force
