Court cases pertaining to employer liability for employee actions are reviewed, particularly regarding guest losses or< injuries. Liability occasioned by negligence in hiring, especially security personnel, is examined, followed by an overview of security policy considerations. Legal issues occasioned by the use of contract security are addressed, with attention to relevant court cases. A discussion of the right and responsibility of hotels/motels to monitor persons entering the premises focuses on guests and patrons, suspicious persons, and employees and contractors. Prevention of hotel property theft by both guests and employees is considered. A chapter advises on the types of doors, locks, and windows to install to ensure legally adequate security. Key-control advice encompasses the issuance and return of keys, master keys, and requests for keys. Security for parking areas is discussed. Liability deriving from licensing arrangements is examined through relevant court cases. Case and subject indexes.
