SYMBOLISM IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF COURTROOM DESIGN; WHILE FUNCTION IS IMPORTANT, IT CAN BE INCORPORATED WITH SYMBOLISM.
Abstract
COURTROOMS IN THE ROUND ARE CASES IN POINT. THE TRADITIONAL IMPARTIALITY OF THE JUDGE, HEIGHTENED BY THE POSITIONING OF THE JUDGE'S BENCH, IS LOST IN COURTROOMS IN THE ROUND. SOME JUDGES REPORT FEELING 'UNCOMFORTABLE' TRYING CRIMINAL CASES IN THE ROUND. HOWEVER, THESE ROUND LAYOUTS MAY BE MORE SUITED TO CIVIL OR FAMILY PROCEEDINGS.
