LECTURE PRESENTED AT AN INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM OF HEADS OF POLICE COLLEGES, CONCERNING PSYCHOLOGICAL TECHNIQUES USED FOR RECRUITING INDIVIDUALS TO WORK WITH YOUTH.
Abstract
THE PAPER FOCUSES ON THE TECHNIQUE UTILIZED AT THE CHILD WELFARE RESEARCH AND TRAINING CENTRE IN FRANCE. THE SELECTION METHOD, TERMED ADAPTED RECRUITMENT, IS INTENDED TO DETERMINE THE EXISTENCE AND NATURE OF PERSONAL DIFFICULTIES AND MOTIVATIONS OF EACH CANDIDATE. APPLICANTS WHOSE PERSONALITIES AND PROBLEMS MIGHT POSSIBLY INCREASE THE PROBLEMS OF THE YOUTHS IN THEIR CHARGE ARE REJECTED. THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SELECTION EXAMINATION MUST BE INTEGRATED WITH A MEDICAL EXAMINATION, PSYCHIATRIC EXAMINATION AND A TRIAL PERIOD ENABLING THE CANDIDATE TO TEST HIS VOCATION AGAINST REALITY.
