IT IS MAINTAINED THAT CRITERIA FOR DETERMINING DEPLOYMENT BY DISTRICT WILL VARY ACCORDING TO THE CHARACTER OF CRIMES IN A DEPARTMENT'S JURISDICTION. SAMPLE LISTS OF FACTORS USED BY VARIOUS CITIES ARE INCLUDED. CRIME CLASSIFICATIONS, AREA, POPULATION, NUMBER OF ARRESTS, AND TYPES OF COMMERCIAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITY ARE SOME GENERAL AREAS USUALLY GIVEN CONSIDERATION. FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED, METHODS OF GATHERING DATA, SAMPLE TABLES AND GRAPHS, AND A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS FOR DECISIONMAKING ARE INCLUDED TO GUIDE SELECTIVE DISTRIBUTION OF PERSONNEL BY HOURS AND DAYS OF THE WEEK.
