This directory identifies small arms in use by military forces worldwide and weapons employed by antigovernment and terrorist forces.
Abstract
Since World War II, the distribution of newly manufactured and obsolete small arms has become an important adjunct of foreign and military policy for many countries. The directory is designed to assist military personnel, policy planners, and other interested parties understand the types of weapons being used in each country and to help them determine the source of weapons. The current status of weapons is noted, with an indication as to whether the weapon is standard, held in reserve, or obsolete. The country-by-country analysis includes sections on each country's population and military forces and pertinent status and origin information for handguns, submachine guns, rifles, shotguns, machine guns, automatic cannons, and grenade launchers. Statistical data are provided on arms production in the Third World from 1982 to 1987. 22 references, tables, figures, and photographs.
