NCJ Number
J R Conte, D A Shore
Date Published
194 pages
This collection of articles presents recent information on the growing problem of child sexual abuse, focusing on the social worker's role in responding to the abuse of children.
Contributors to the 11-article journal discuss the historical context in which sexual abuse takes place, issues surrounding the professional's response to sexual abuse, sexual abuse treatment programs for children and families, and the role the court plays in child sexual abuse. Specific papers examine the major findings of current research on the sexual abuse of children, clinical issues in child sexual abuse, family treatment of child sexual abuse, social work and the sexual oppression of youth, and nonresidential treatment models. Also discussed are clinical observations of the child molester; the impact of the District of Columbia criminal justice system on the victims of child sexual abuse; and case management, legal issues, and therapeutic concerns involved in handling child sexual abuse cases at Illinois' Juvenile Court of Cook County. A final article explores sexual abuse and sexual education in child-caring institutions. References are provided with each article. For separate articles, see NCJ-88184-88.
