A study of somatic, psychiatric, and hormonal factors of six XYY psychopaths in the security ward of Cadillac Psychiatric Hospital reveals certain malformations and disorders but no significant behavioral differences from other nonpsychotic delinquent mental patients.
Abstract
Patients are examined in the following areas: karyotypes of the patient and his family, familial antecedents, somatic and paraclinical symptoms, psychological and psychiatric characteristics as determined through tests, and hormone and fertility levels. Somatic characteristics observed are tallness and slight malformations or smallness of the genitals. From a psychiatric perspective, XYY carriers tend to be slightly mentally handicapped, egocentric, impulsive, aggressive, and impervious to ethical considerations. Hormonally, XYY subjects' testosterone levels in blood vary from high to low. Typical histological anomalies of genitals are reduction of tubular diameter with sclerosis and hyalinization of tubular membranes, reduction of sperm count, and dysplastic Leydig cells. Tables and a bibliography of about 30 entries are supplied.
