Abstract
THE FIRST THREE CHAPTERS DEAL WITH HISTORICAL ANALYSES OF PRISONERS INCLUDING TWO SURVEYS OF RELEASE PROCEDURES AND A DISUCSSION OF THE PAROLE REVOCATION PROCEDURE. CHAPTER FOUR FOCUSES ON THE EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF PROFESSIONAL PERSONNEL WORKING IN THE FIELD OF PROBATION AND PAROLE. VARIOUS ASPECTS OF PROBATION SUCH AS INVESTIGATION, SELECTION, AND REVOCATION ARE REVIEWED IN CHAPTER FIVE. THE SIXTH CHAPTER IS DEVOTED TO JUVENILE PROBATION AND AFTERCARE AND INCLUDES DISCUSSIONS OF FOSTER CARE AND GROUP REPORTING IN JUVENILE PROBATION. TWO CHAPTERS ARE DEVOTED TO TREATMENT STRATEGIES IN PROBATION AND PAROLE SUCH AS GROUP SUPERVISION, HALFWAY HOUSES, AND THE USE OF VOLUNTEERS IN PAROLE. THE LAST TWO CHAPTERS ARE CONCERNED WITH ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECTS OF PAROLE AND CORRECTIONS RESEARCH AND PREDICTION. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS CORRECTIONAL STANDARDS SELECTED BY THE SPECIAL TASK FORCE ON CORRECTIONAL STANDARDS. A SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHY IS ALSO INCLUDED.
