Abstract
THE INITIAL FOCUS OF THIS REPORT IS ON THE SELECTION PROCESS IN RELEASE, EDUCATIONAL RELEASE, AND ACCELERATED PRE-RELEASE PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS FEDERAL REFERRAL, PASS, AND INMATE FURLOUGH PROGRAMS. ENABLING LEGISLATION IS PROVIDED FOR THE LATTER. 'PROJECT TRANSITION', AN EFFORT WHICH HAS EXPANDED PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE EX-OFFENDER IS ALSO DISCUSSED. SUCCEEDING MATERIAL EXAMINES RELEASE PROGRAMS FOR FEMALE OFFENDERS. ADDITIONAL STATISTICAL TABLES INDICATE THE NUMBER OF PERSONS GAINED, DISMISSED, RELEASED, AND PAROLED PER INSTITUTION, INMATE INCOME, AND TOTAL STATE AND FEDERAL INCOME PAID. DATA ARE ALSO PROVIDED ON RELEASE PROGRAMS, RECIDIVISM, ESCAPES, OPERATIONAL COSTS, AVERAGE WEEKLY SALARIES, AND INSTITUTIONAL POPULATIONS. INCLUDED IS A TABLE OF TIME REQUIREMENTS FOR WORK RELEASE ELIGIBILITY.
