Abstract
THE BELGIAN JUVENILE POLICE WERE ESTABLISHED UNDER A LAW DATED APRIL 8, 1975. IT IS INTENDED THAT THEIR MISSION WILL BE ESSENTIALLY A PREVENTIVE ONE. THEY ARE EXPECTED TO IDENTIFY AND INVESTIGATE MINORS IN DANGER OF BECOMING OFFENDERS AND PREVENT THAT FROM HAPPENING, IF POSSIBLE. THEY ALSO INVESTIGATE CASES WHERE MINORS ARE VICTIMS OR WITNESSES OF CRIME. THE JUVENILE POLICE ARE USED FOR SUCH SPECIAL PURPOSES AS INTERROGATING, ARRESTING AND ESCORTING MINORS.
