The annual report of the Hawaii Judiciary, covering the July 1997-June 1998 period, contains information on the structure of the Judiciary, legislative priorities, program highlights, judicial appointments, and appellate and trial courts.
Hawaii's court system includes the Supreme Court and appellate courts, as well as circuit, family, and district courts. Legislative priorities during the report period focused on a judicial salary increase, the hiring of additional judges, technology upgrades, court security, capital improvement projects, and alternative dispute resolution. Significant program activities during the report period included a court improvement process initiative, jury innovations, a project to streamline the family court process, the use of videos by parties and defendants in small claims and traffic courts, a toll-free information line, an appellate conference program, and Judiciary website expansion.
