This report describes the status of current State-level projects in Nebraska funded under the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986 to improve drug law enforcement, drug abuse education, drug prevention, and drug treatment throughout the State.
The State has nine types of projects. Chemical testing and probation administration is a urinalysis drug testing program to monitor probationers' prohibited use of drugs or alcohol. Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) is an educational program for 5th and 6th graders to prevent future tobacco, drug, and alcohol abuse and promote positive identification with the police officers who serve as instructors. Drug Courier Training is a 2-day session providing Federal, State, and local law enforcement officials with instruction in the identification of drug couriers, pipeline interdiction, and the Cuban connection in cocaine trafficking. The Law Enforcement Training Center's Drug Enforcement Training consists of several classes on drug enforcement operations, management, and special issues for urban and rural police officers. Other programs focus on improved prosecution, enhanced mid-level and upper level drug investigations, a multiple-approach drug treatment program, and a juvenile offender drug assessment and education program.
