Abstract
THE STATEMENT ADDRESSES ITSELF TO PROBLEMS WHICH MAY OCCUR AS A RESULT OF THE ENERGY CRISIS, SUCH AS SHORTAGES OF GASOLINE SUPPLIES FOR POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES, CRIMINAL ACTIVITY THAT MAY SEEK TO CAPITALIZE ON FUEL SHORTAGES, CONSUMER FRAUDS, AND THE HEATING AND SECURITY OF CORRECTIONS FACILITIES AND COURTROOMS. THE AUTHOR THEN DISCUSSES FOUR GENERAL AREAS OF CONCERN - CONSERVATION (REDUCTION OF ENERGY REQUIREMENTS WITHOUT HAMPERING PERFORMANCE), CRIME PREVENTION (IDENTIFICATION OF INCREASED TYPES OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY LIKELY TO RESULT FROM ENERGY SHORTAGES), ENFORCEMENT (EFFECTS OF FUEL AND ENERGY SHORTAGES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE FUNCTIONS), AND INFORMATION (IDENTIFICATION OF MECHANISMS FOR COLLECTION AND DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION ON CRIME, ENFORCEMENT, AND CONSERVATION PROBLEMS AND STRATEGIES AS THEY RELATE TO THE ENERGY CRISIS).
