This set of statistics presents information on the Austrian prison system and probation assistance for 1992.
Abstract
The first part is devoted to the correctional system. It informs on the number of prisons and juvenile institutions, additional buildings which are part of the correctional system, correctional costs, and correctional personnel statistics. Several charts deal with prison use: prison capacity, the number of occupants, and the execution of sentences. Labor performed by the inmates is classified according to different types such as brick making, agricultural labor, and labor used for prison upkeep. The following sections survey food services and food cost of the inmates, recreational activities, educational inmate programs, and health care. Statistics on inmate rehabilitation include social programs and postrelease assistance. Information on prison security lists newly installed security equipment and prison evasions. A special section is devoted to probation assistance: its tasks, probation personnel, cases handled, probation homes, probation costs, and victim/offender mediation.
