THE SITUATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM USED BY THE HARRISBURG, PA., POLICE WAS INSTITUTED TO GIVE ROOKIES 'EXPERIENCE' IN MANY TYPES OF STRUCTURED SITUATIONS IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE POSSIBILITY OF MISTAKES IN REAL LIFE.
Abstract
ABANDONNED FARMHOUSES OR FORECLOSED ESTATES ARE OFTEN AVAILABLE TO POLICE DEPARTMENTS FOR SITUATIONAL TRAINING EXPERIENCE. THIS TYPE OF TRAINING IS WELL SUITED FOR TEACHING CAR STOP PROCEDURES, CRISIS CALLS, AND DOMESTIC DISTURBANCES. TRAINEES ARE TAUGHT THE VALUE AND DELICACY OF EVIDENCE BY GOING THROUGH ELEMENTARY LAB PROCEDURES. PHYSICAL TRAINING IS ALSO ENHANCED AS TRAINEES NEGOTIATE A REALISTIC OBSTACLE COURSE.
