A COMPUTER SIMULATION OF TWO CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS FOR PERSISTENT JUVENILE LAWBREAKERS IN ORDER TO PREDICT THE SUCCESS OF ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT MODALITIES.
Abstract
COMPREHENSIVE DATA WERE COLLECTED FROM 236 DELINQUENTS WHO WERE RANDOMLY ASSIGNED TO ONE OF TWO VERY DIFFERENT TREATMENT PROGRAMS. RECENT CORRECTIONAL AND CRIMINOLOGICAL THEORY AND STEPWISE MULTIPLE REGRESSION TECHNIQUES WERE COMBINED TO CONSTRUCT DETAILED MODELS OF BOTH PROGRAMS. THE MODELS WERE THEN USED AS THE BASIS FOR CONSTRUCTING A COMPUTER SIMULATION OF THE PROGRAMS. MANIPULATIONS OF THE MODELS SUGGESTED THAT FUTURE SIMULATION STUDIES IN THIS AREA COULD GREATLY IMPROVE THE EFFICIENCY OF OUR PRESENT CORRECTIONAL SYSTEMS AND COULD ADVANCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF CRIMINOLOGICAL THEORY.
