Street level drug enforcement efforts are explored.
Abstract
Street level drug dealing is a concern in neighborhoods nationwide. This article briefly explores drug teams that use a mixture of buy busts, stings, walk buys, and property seizures as part of overall drug law enforcement strategies. Also included is the rotation of drug teams so the members of the team are not recognized as police officers and lose their effectiveness. These street level drug enforcement efforts concentrate on the people who are causing the problems, the smaller dealers and their customers, with drug units encouraging community involvement in their efforts. Anecdotal evidence is provided concerning efforts by narcotics units in Dallas, Texas, Rochester, New York, and Birmingham, Alabama.
