This guide is intended as a resource of information and ideas to strengthen the partnership between the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association and Kappa Alpha Theta (KAT), the college fraternity for women, to better serve children in the court and foster care systems.
Abstract
The support current and alumni members of KAT have given to CASA programs at the local level is particularly valuable because most CASA programs have a small staff who must recruit and retain volunteers, manage programs, collect and report data, maintain a solid rapport with court and social service agencies, conduct public relations activities to expand awareness of children's needs, and assign cases and supervise volunteer work on these cases. Successful ventures between CASA programs and KAT chapters are noted. Benefits of KAT participation in CASA programs are identified as personal satisfaction, opportunity for effective community involvement, working for and helping children, and opportunity for networking in the business community. Activities instituted by CASA to educate KAT members about program participation are described, along with ways in which CASA and KAT have worked together in recent years.
