Abstract
This report was presented at the 21st session of the U.N. Economic and Social Council's Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice's meeting in April 2012 in Vienna. The theme of the session was "World crime trends and emerging issues and responses in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice." The report is an overview of U.N. efforts to strengthen public-private partnerships to counter all forms of crime. The report identifies priority areas for public-private partnerships to be strengthened within the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), identifies ways for UNODC to involve the private sector in its activities, and identifies ways for UNODC to inform member states regularly about its engagement with the private sector. The report contains four main sections: 1) an overview of partnership efforts to prevent crime; 2) an overview of two partnership efforts to counter trafficking in persons, the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, and the Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking; 3) efforts to fight corruption; and 4) efforts to fight cybercrime.
