This article presents research concerning white collar crime causes.
Abstract
The authors note that much research has been done regarding the causes of crime, but they also note that this research is largely geared towards traditional or street crime. Based upon this belief, the authors conducted a series of research studies designed to provide for white collar crime the same sorts of empirical resources that exist for street crime causes. The authors placed particular focus on research designed to explore the causal role of economic motivation in incidences of white collar crime. Study data consisted of statistical information on 1990 embezzlement rates in metropolitan areas. Based on the data the authors concluded that divorced males and members of families in poverty were at a significantly higher risk than other workers for acts of embezzlement. 2 Tables, 71 references,1 appendix
