This report provides detailed information about felony and misdemeanor convictions under structured sentencing in North Carolina during fiscal year 1997-1998.
Abstract
The report only includes cases where an offender was convicted and sentenced for a crime committed on or after October 1, 1994, the effective date of structured sentencing. The report presents information on the number of felony and misdemeanor convictions and the distribution of felony and misdemeanor convictions within their respective punishment grids. In addition, statistics are provided on characteristics of offenders (gender, race, and age), sentence location in sentencing ranges, intermediate punishments, and community punishments. Special felony issues covered in the report include habitual felons, firearm enhancement, death and life without parole sentences, drug trafficking convictions, community service, and restitution. Appendixes contain a map of judicial divisions and districts in North Carolina and additional felony data. Tables and figures
