Abstract
The handbook contains 10 chapters, the first of which focuses on the role of new correctional supervisors. Subsequent chapters cover leadership skills, decision-making skills, change management, and time management. Additional chapters address communicating effectively, making meetings productive, using praise and criticism with subordinates and managing conflict, delegating work, and understanding staff and organizational needs. Each chapter contains a list of objectives and worksheets. The handbook recognizes that correctional supervision is a challenging and rewarding field involving many skills and talents, that correctional supervision skills and techniques change and evolve, and that correctional supervisors must always be on the lookout for ways to improve job performance.
