Abstract
In 1998, the Judicial Council and the Judicial Administrator's Office focused their efforts on key areas to help courts provide better service and information to their constituencies. The Consumer Research and Service Development Project assessed citizen perceptions about courts, while communication outreach in other areas helped educate citizens, the Campaign for Children addressed the needs of youth, while the development of court management information systems was based on the latest technology available. About 0.5 percent of Louisiana's general fund was appropriated for the judiciary in 1998. The Law Library of Louisiana automated its collection records, and several continuing legal education programs for judges were conducted. Other court activities concerned judge competence and professionalism and judicial ethics. The statistical overview of court cases indicates 3,223 filings were made in the Supreme Court, 10,510 filing in appeal courts, 166,251 civil filings and 467,170 criminal and traffic filings in criminal courts, and 1,000,728 filings in city and parish courts. Names of judges and clerks in appeal, district, city, and parish courts are listed Tables, figures, and photographs
