This study was conducted to examine topcoat colors comparisons of vehicles in Edmonton, Alberta.
Abstract
The topcoat colors of 156 vehicles in a Federal Government employee parking lot in Edmonton, Alberta, were measured using a hand-held spectrophotometer. Vehicles were categorized and compared by topcoat color and finish (metallic vs. non-metallic), manufacturer, model year, and brand (domestic vs. foreign). L*a*b* values were used to calculate pair-wise color difference (deltaE*04 from CIE94) within specific color groupings to evaluate the possibility of a random color match between two vehicles within a given geographic location. A qualitative comparison was also made between human color perception and the spectrophotometric measurements for gold metallic automotive topcoats. (Published Abstract)
