SURVEY OF 40 POLICE DEPARTMENTS WITH DATA ON POLICE PERSONNEL, EQUIPMENT AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
Abstract
IT IS ARRANGED IN TABULAR FORM BY SUBJECT IN ORDER TO PROVIDE A BASIS FOR COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS. AVERAGE SALARIES, FRINGE BENEFITS AND OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE CONSIDERATIONS ARE LISTED SEPARATELY FOR ALL 40 CITIES AND FOR CITIES WITH AN ESTIMATED POPULATION OF 300,000 TO 700,000. SINCE DEPARTMENTS RETURNED DETAILED QUESTIONNAIRES, NOT ALL RESPONSES FIT EASILY INTO THE FORMAT. THE SEVERAL SHEETS WHICH LIST THESE INDIVIDUAL RESPONSES PROVIDE DETAILED GLIMPSES INTO THE MANY PROGRAMS AND INNOVATIONS IN WHICH MODERN POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE ENGAGED. AN ALPHABETICAL INDEX OF ALL THE VARIOUS TYPES OF INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THE SURVEY IS PROVIDED IN ORDER TO AID THOSE SEEKING SPECIFIC DATA.
