          Abstract
The National Center for Rural Law Enforcement (NCRLE), a Center within the Criminal Justice Institute, University of Arkansas System, in cooperation with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, is providing free Internet access to more than 1,500 rural law enforcement agencies and tribal agencies in 49 States. The Internet program facilitates communication and information sharing among agencies. It also provides other services, including: (1) free model policy and procedures manuals; (2) free Web site hosting for law enforcement agencies; (3) free publications, both by e-mail and regular mail; (4) free Internet service for law enforcement agencies in support of the Bullet Proof Vest and the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant programs sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance; (5) an online Internet user manual; and (6) a Web-based Introduction to the Internet. The article describes a mobile chemical-detection system soon to be available to help in the fight against illegal methamphetamine production. In addition, it reviews the growing use of emergency cardiac defibrillators by the public safety community.
