REPORT ON THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF 875 ADULTS IN MADRID, SPAIN, REGARDING OPINIONS ON HIJACKING AND TERRORISM AS COMPARED TO A SAMPLE OF 131 UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN SAN SEBASTIAN.
Abstract
A QUESTIONNAIRE GEARED TOWARD ASSESSING OPINIONS TOWARD RECENT SKYJACKINGS AND OTHER TERRORISTIC ACTIVITIES WAS DEVELOPED AND ADMINISTERED TO BOTH GROUPS IN EARLY 1973. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT THE STUDENTS WERE FAR MORE LIKELY TO CONSIDER THE CRIMES IN QUESTION AS POLITICAL RATHER THAN COMMON CRIMES. THIS WAS ATTRIBUTED TO THE FACT THAT A MAJORITY OF STUDENTS POLLED WERE OF BASQUE ORIGIN AND ARE INFLUENCED BY PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGICAL FACTORS PECULIAR TO THAT GROUP.
