MOBILE DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM INSTALLED IN PATROL CARS INCREASES THE NUMBER OF INQUIRIES BY CONNECTING PATROLMEN WITH TWO LAW ENFORCEMENT DATA BASES.
Abstract
THE EQUIPMENT USED BY THE NEW YORK STATE POLICE INCLUDES FOUR TERMINALS, FOUR MOBILE PRINTERS AND A PROGRAMMABLE TERMINAL CONTROLLER. 'IN RECENT TESTS, THE TERMINAL PROVED TO BE MORE EFFICIENT THAN OVER-THE-AIR VOICE TRANSMISSION' BECAUSE IT DECREASES THE RESPONSE TIME OF INQUIRIES DIRECTED EITHER TO THE NEW YORK STATE POLICE INFORMATION NETWORK (NYSPIN), OR THE FBI'S NATIONAL CRIME INFORMATION CENTER (NCIC) IN WASHINGTON.
