REPORT ON A GROUP THERAPY PROGRAM FOR PRISON SECURITY GUARDS AT TERMONDE, BELGIUM TO IMPROVE THEIR PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH INMATES, COLLEAGUES, AND MANAGEMENT.
Abstract
THE AIM OF THE TWO TWO-DAY THERAPY SESSIONS WAS TO MAKE THE GUARDS MORE AWARE OF THE POINTS OF VIEW OF THE OTHER MEMBERS OF PRISON SOCIETY AND OF THE EFFECTS OF THEIR OWN BEHAVIOR. THE TECHNIQUES USED WERE GROUP DISCUSSIONS AND ROLE-PLAYING, DURING WHICH THE THERAPIST DELIBERATELY REFRAINED FROM MAKING EVALUATIVE COMMENTS. AMONG THE POINTS DISCUSSED WERE THE EFFECTS OF SUCH NON-VERBAL BEHAVIOR AS SITTING DOWN OR KEEPING A CERTAIN DISTANCE FROM SOMEONE ELSE. --IN FRENCH
