PRISON WELFARE OFFICER HELPS THE INMATE FROM THE MOMENT OF CONVICTION AND OUTSIDE PROBATION OFFICER SUPPORTS HIS FAMILY, WITH COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE.
Abstract
THE ONE-TO-ONE RELATIONSHIP OF PROBATION OFFICER AND CLIENT HAS UNDERGONE A VITAL MODIFICATION IN THAT PROBATION OFFICERS NOW WORK TOGETHER ON INDIVIDUAL CASES. ALSO MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE BEING RECRUITED AND USED, PARTICULARLY FOR CASES SUCH AS THOSE INVOLVING ALCOHOLICS, FAMILIES OF INMATES AND HOMELESS PROBATIONERS. COMMUNITY CENTERS ARE BEING USED FOR SUCH PURPOSES AS ASSISTING USERS OF DRUGS AND HELPING ADULTS ON PROBATION OVERCOME THEIR HANDICAPS AND PROBLEMS. INCLUDED ARE FOUR CASE HISTORIES ILLUSTRATIVE OF THROUGH-CARE.
