During 1997, 1,394 civil narcotic addicts were released to outpatient status for the first time from California Department of Corrections (CDC) institutions.
Abstract
The total mean time served in CDC institutions and in custody prior to CDC was 15.1 months. The total mean time served for females was 1.2 months longer than for males. Mean and median times served in CDC institutions were 11.6 and 10.9 months, respectively. The total mean time served was 16 months for females and 14.8 months for males. The mean time served in CDC institutions was 12.8 months for females and 11.2 months for males. The mean time in custody prior to CDC was 3.3 months for females and 3.6 months for males. The total mean time served for personal offenses was 17.2 months, with males serving 0.2 months longer than females (17.7 months for females and 17.9 months for males). Time served for property offenses was 16 months for females and 14.6 months for males, time served for drug offenses was 16.1 months for females and 14.7 months for males, and time served for all other offenses was 14.2 months for females and 14.3 months for males. 3 tables and 2 figures
