This study tested the Trauma Outcome Process Assessment (TOPA) with structural equation modeling.
Abstract
Results revealed strong relationships among variables, and supporting use of the TOPA model. This investigation focused upon the TOPA, which explicitly includes affective and cognitive symptoms among the negative effects of trauma exposure, encompasses a range of behavioral outcomes beyond pathology, and differentiates self-destructive and abusive patterns directed toward others. Data were collected from undergraduate university students who completed an online survey. Directly witnessing or actually experiencing a traumatic event was a requirement for inclusion in the study. Analysis of the data indicates that all variables hypothesized to be related were significantly correlated in the expected direction, all relational paths hypothesized in the TOPA model were robustly significant, and the model's latent variables were supported.
